CISCE Boxing tournament

La Martiniere College hosted CISCE Boxing tournament from 5th to 7th of August 2019. Many schools from all over Uttar Pradesh participated in this three-day long boxing event. Thirteen students participated from La Martiniere College, Lucknow and were successful in winning seven gold medals, five silver medals and one bronze medal.

The matches were held in both the Constantia campus and the Junior school campus. The event was well organized by the Boxing Coach -Mr Joshi Kumar and Boxing Secretary – Mr. Rino Matthews.

6th Negotium Agon

6th Negotium Agon-2019 was held on 27th July,2019 at The Wynberg-Allen School in Mussoorie. 42 schools participated in the competition. Our school participated in all the four events and won prizes. Yashvit Danani of Class 10 received the Outstanding Performance award in the event Create De Logo(Logo Designing) as his work was highly appreciated. Darsh Oswal and Harjyot Singh Chadha of Class 12 participated in the event Business Quiz, they qualified the Preliminary Round and were amongst the Top Six teams in the Final Round where they managed the overall Fourth Position. 6th Claude Martin Debates and Boloune Lise Quiz

The 6th Claude Martin Debates and Boloune Lise Quiz were held from 24th to 27th July, 2019. Seventeen schools participated from all over India.

The Debate had 4 rounds: preliminary, quarter-final, semi-final and final.  La Martiniere College, Lucknow and La Martiniere Girls’ College, Lucknow qualified for the finals. La Martiniere College, Lucknow won the final round. Kriti Ghai of La Martiniere Girls’ College, Lucknow was judged the Best Speaker of the Event.

Six teams participated in the Boulone Lise Quiz. The quiz was won by La Martiniere Girls’ College, Kolkata.

Entente

ENTENTE is a collection of events held every year at La Martiniere Girls’ College, Lucknow. This year Entente had five clubs- Bee Jewel, Scientofab, Ataraxis, Cybus, and Cynosure which organized different events. These were held from the 19th to the 21st of July, 2019. There were over 1300 participants from all over the country.

Bee Jewel, comprising of a series of English language competitions, was won by Mount Carmel. Ataraxis and Cynosure consisting of events involving stage activities and photography was won by La Martiniere Girls’ College, Lucknow while Scientofab consisting of events for science enthusiasts was won by La Martiniere College, Lucknow. Cybus involving contests requiring coding skills was won by Modern Academy. The runners up trophy for Entente 2019 was won by La Martiniere College, Lucknow. La Martiniere Girls’ College, Lucknow were declared the winners. Being the host school, the trophy was passed on to the runners up, La Martiniere College, Lucknow.

Cyber Awareness Session

Cyber Awareness Session by Advocate Ayush Saran L.L.M, P.G.D CYBER LAW, P.I.C.I. Certified Internet Crime Investigator interacted with the pupils of Class 9.The students were explained the significance of using the technology judiciously. The session that was held had an interactive round of solving queries by a large number of enthusiastic pupils, who enjoyed the meaningful topic put up by the expert in the field.

Bastille Day

Bastille Day was celebrated on the 14th of July with a special assembly to mark the occasion. Saransh Alexander Kumar led the assembly, as the boys of the French department recited the Lord’s prayer in French. This was followed by the birthday song being sung in French by the middle school choir. The boys of the French department apprised the gathering about the historical aspect of Bastille day, as well as the various political causes associated with it. A succinct mention of French culture followed, which included the staple diet of the population, the various types of French cheese, along with several other features of the civilisation.

The French editorial board for this session was also announced, with Rayvant Tripathi serving as the Editor. The assembly was brought to an end with the singing of the French national anthem by the middle school choir followed by the Indian national anthem.

Bastille Day

A special assembly to commemorate the Bastille Day was held at the East Terrace. The regular assembly activities were held in French language as well. The assembly concluded with the singing of the National Anthem of both the countries.

21st Dubai Open Chess Championship

Garvit Kalra represented India at the 21st Dubai Open Chess Championship and 12th Mayors Cup 2019 and was placed 1st in the under-1600 Elo Category. He also represented Uttar Pradesh at the National Rapid, Blitz Chess Championship and National Under 17 Chess Championship and was placed 28th overall.

Garvit Kalra has now qualified to represent India at the World Rapid and Blitz Championship next year and he will now be a part of the Indian Team at the World Youth Chess Championship, which will be held in Romania next year.
We wish Garvit Kalra best of luck for his future endeavours.

NCC Air Wing Camp

The NCC Air Wing camp was held at La Martiniere College, Lucknow from the 11 of June to the 20 of June 2019. Around 500 NCC cadets from various schools and colleges under NCC Group Headquarters, Lucknow attended this camp. Seventeen Air Wing cadets from La Martiniere College were a part of the 10 day camp. Our cadets maintained a high level of discipline and took an active part in all the camp activities.
Ibaad Hussain was awarded a medal for his contribution to the cultural programme held during the camp. La Martiniere College , Lucknow was awarded the trophy for being the best in Drill. A special memento was also presented to La Martiniere College ,Lucknow for hosting the NCC camp by the Camp Commandant.

International Shooting Competition

Akull Kumar, Class X-C, represented India in the International Shooting Competition , which was held in Hannover City, Germany in May 2019. Akull participated in the individual and mixed doubles events in the 10m Air Pistol Category. He was awarded the silver medal in the mixed doubles event. In the individual event he came in 9th out of over100 participants from 35 nations.

Akull practiced under the guidance of Mr. Vikas Tomar, shooting coach, La Martiniere College, Lucknow.

Invitational Inter School English Debates

La Martiniere College, Lucknow won The 24th Rev. Dr Samuel Slater Memorial Invitational Inter School English Debates- 2019 organized by The Bishop Cotton School, Shimla. Our boys won all the debates in the competition.

They defeated Auckland House College, Shimla in the Quarter-Final Round, Rashtriya Indian Military College, Dehradun in challenging Semi-Final Round and then went on to defeat Mayo Girls’ College, Ajmer in the Final Debate.

Visit to ISRO

ISRO conducted a 2 week long program for students presently in Class 9 named YU.VI.KA Yuva Vigyaani Kaaryakram or Young Scientist Program from the 12th May,2019 to the 24th May,2019 Each state was represented by 3 students.
Harsh Kapoor of Class 9-B from La Martiniere College, Lucknow was selected for this program and was awarded with a Gold Medal along with a Certificate of Participation.

Significance Of Braille Script

An interactive session on the significance of Braille script was organized for the pupils of class 6. This is an initiative towards SUPW by La Martiniere College , Lucknow.   Mr Shadab an alumnus of the college along with Dr Rakesh Jain and Miss Radha Srivastava conducted this session which is the first of its kind in the history of La Martiniere College, Lucknow.

The students were introduced with new technologies and the Braille script which is used by the visually impaired people . They were introduced to special tools like thermometer blood pressure machine , Braille script sheets and the methodology of their usage .
The students interacted with the experts and an explanation was provided towards the judicial use of the advanced technology, that is being used by the visually impaired people of our society.

Evening Bazaar

The annual Evening Bazaar was held at the Fairydale field on the 4th of May. It was marked by an excellent number of visitors and bubbling excitement among the students. Every class along with their teachers put up a diverse variety of stalls, including those for games, food and drinks. There was a stall for the sale of College Souvenirs, as well as for the registration for the upcoming Summer Vacation Camps. The evening was enlivened by a variety of music played all through the evening. There were visitors from all parts of the city. The central attraction of the evening was the prizes for the Raffle announced by the Principal, the prizes for which were given by the La Martiniere Alumni. The Principal himself visited all the stalls in the bazaar and was visibly delighted. All the proceeds from the sale of items in the bazaar as well as from the sale of Raffle tickets were given for the conservation of Constantia.

Junior School Investiture

The Junior School Investiture Ceremony was held on the 30th of April, 2019. The Head of the Junior Department and the Housemistresses of Junior Campus, led the boys in the pledge as the new Pupil Authorities of the Junior Campus for the Academic Session 2019-2020. Aadesh Venkata Subramaniam was appointed as the School Captain and Mehar Singh Khosla as the School Vice Captain. Chaitnya Shukla, Syed Waheb Raza, Ranveer Singh Chandok and Lakshya Joshi were appointed as the House Captains of Cornwallis, Hodson, Lyons and Martin House respectively.

On the advice of the District Administration, classes till Class 10 shall conclude at 12.00 noon
every day till the Summer vacation.

Class 12 shall continue till 1.00 PM.

Assembly in both campuses shall be at the usual summer timing.

Prize Day

The Prize Day of 2019 was held on the 27th of April. The Prize Day procession began with the arrival of the Chief Guest Mr Padmashree Balram Bhargava. The NCC Cadets flaunted a brilliant show of coordination and skill in their unparalleled march-past. This was followed by a speech from the Principal who introduced us to the Chief Guest. Shortly afterwards the junior and senior school college choir sang melodious songs.

With the arrival of dusk the prize distribution started. After the distribution of the prizes for Junior School, a presentation highlighting the chief events which happened during the last year in school – The Year That Was – was presented. The prize distribution re-commenced with the awarding of prizes to pupils of Middle and Senior School. The prestigious ceremony came to an end with a final speech made by the Chief Guest.

Important Notice for Payment of fees

The session 2019-2020 shall commence on Monday 8th April 2019.

Fees for existing pupils remains unchanged until further orders.

Parents are advised to verify amounts payable from the pupils fee account uploaded on the fee portal.

Due to proposal to implement recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission, fee for  the session 2019-2020 are likely to be increased during the year. The increase shall be implemented after the approval of the Local Committee of Governors of La Martiniere College.

Innogen

INNOGEN is an event where young students get an opportunity to showcase their revolutionary ideas for the future and even create demonstration models to further illustrate them.
There were working models of a hydroelectric power plant, an ATM machine, a potato cannon, a pair of smart shoes which can charge batteries or a small electrical appliance and a security system using a laser scanner.

The judges for the competition were Dr. Parthasarathi Ramakrishnan (from the CSIR- Indian Institute of Toxicology Research) and Mr. Sanjeev Ojha, Principal Scientist at the National Botanical Research Institute of India.

The first prize was won by the hydroelectric power plant. The second prize was won by the remote-controlled vacuum cleaner. The third prize was won by the potato cannon. The entire event was managed by boys of the school, with assistance from their teachers.

Farewell

On the 29th of January the Senior-Most boys bid farewell to their second home. Every year a Farewell Programme is organized by the pupils of class 11 for their seniors. The event started with a batch photograph in the afternoon. After the photo session at the East-Terrace, the boys attended a Farewell Chapel Service. While the seniors were attending the chapel service, all the boys of class 11 lined up around the Principal’s Lawn and warmly welcomed them into the Spence Hall after the service. All the boys of class 12 were given a sentimental token as a souvenir.

A power point presentation made by the Media Team portraying the memories of the batch of class 12 and their journey throughout La Martiniere was played for the boys. It was followed by a ramp walk in which all the boys of class 12 took part. The students of class 11 performed a dance and a few songs for their seniors. In the end, the Principal announced the awards in which our College Captain Vighnesh Mehrotra won The Gentleman of the Year as well as Mr. La Martiniere. The 1st Runners up and 2nd Runners up was won by Naman Mishra and Ayaan Garg respectively. Mr. Suave was won by Vedant Agnihotri.

Dinner was served at the Sykes Hall Lawn thus concluding the farewell for the pupils of the Batch of 2018-2019.

Life saving Workshop

A lifesaving workshop was conducted in the Middle School Library on the 21st  of January, 28th January, and 4th February. Doctors from the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (S.G.P.G.I.M.S.) taught the boys how to deal with quandaries or emergency situations such as people losing consciousness or having severe injuries.

The workshop taught the pupils how to do Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (C.P.R.), a life-saving technique used in emergencies such as a cardiac arrest, drowning and heart attack. Practice drills were conducted so the pupils could perfect the method of C.P.R. The pupils were also taught first aid techniques to save themselves and others from snake bites, dog bites, monkey bites, bee stings, drowning and a heat stroke. The workshop enlightened both pupils and teachers with the measures to be taken if a calamity took place.

Republic Day

The Republic Day programme at La Martiniere College was held on the 26th of January 2019 at the East-Terrace. The Chief Guest for the programme was Mr. Sharat Pradhan, a senior journalist and a political analyst for the Free Press Journal. The platoons consisting of the Cubs, Scouts, Rovers, Air Wing, Navy Wing, and Army Wing, came one after the other and stood at ease and waited for the Chief Guest. The buglers played the bugles, indicating the arrival of the Chief Guest. He was guided by the College Commander and two Pilots for the inspection of the parade. The flag was hoisted by the Chief Guest and the platoons marched past the Chief Guest who stood for the salute.

The Chief Guest gave a noteworthy speech on the importance, relevance, hardships of and the necessity of a free press in today’s world. He even commended the parade and its remarkable portrayal of coordination.

The Principal announced that three Ex-Martinians, Major Tushar Gauba, Group Captain Anubhav Tripathi and Lt. Gen. Bipin Puri had earned the Kirti Chakra, Vayu Sena Medal, and the Param Vishisht Seva Medal respectively on the same day.

Inter-Martiniere Cricket

The Inter-Martiniere Cricket Meet held between the junior cricket teams of La Martiniere College Lucknow and La Martiniere Boys Kolkata was held on the 20th of January, 2019 on the Cricket Ground at Fairydale.

The boys from Kolkata were accompanied by their Vice- Principal, Mr. John Steven. The Captain of the team from Kolkata was Kavin Doshi and the Captain of the Lucknow team was Anant Mohan.

La Martiniere Kolkata won the toss and opted to bowl first. The Lucknow team had scored a total 50 runs and were all out in 17 overs. Chasing the score, Kolkata reached the target in 13 overs at the loss of 2 wickets.

La Martiniere Kolkata won the match by 8 wickets.

The La Martiniere Model United Nations 2018 was held from the 2nd to the 4th of November. The committees were:

 

  1. United Nations General Assembly: 2nd Committee (ECOFIN): Discussing the role of Shell Corporations in enabling International Criminal Fraud and Money Laundering.

 

  1. United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC): 1) The violation of Human Rights by State actors in the guise of National Emergencies and Crises.

3. Popularization of Hate Speech and its scope of operation under the Freedom of Speech.

 

  1. United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN-ECOSOC): Ensuring the healthy development of Artificial Intelligence.

 

  1. United Nations Security Council Evaluating the effectiveness of Visa Blockades and Travel Bans in maintaining International Peace and Security.

 

  1. UN-WATER: Discussing the Jordan River Crisis with special emphasis on its impact on the situation in Syria.

 

  1. African Union (AU): Developing Transnational Transportation and Infrastructure with Special Emphasis on Maintenance of Security.

 

  1. Meeting of the Black Panther Party (1971): Adoption of Methods to Counter Institutional Racism and Achieve Equality in the United States of America.

 

  1. National Security Council Of India: Strategic Policy Group: Reforming the Indian Defence Sector with Special Emphasis on the Manufacture and Proliferation of Advanced Weaponry in India.

 

  1. Ministerial Cabinet of the 3rd Borissov Government: Elimination of Organised Crime Groups Operating in Bulgaria.

 

  1. Ad-Hoc Committee of the Secretary-General- Assembly of the Ministers of the Kingdom. Internal and Geopolitical Situation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

 

There were many international issues as the Committees’ agendas. Two of the committees even had tedious midnight sessions. Honorable members of our society, who came in as different keynote speakers, addressed the young delegates. The First two evenings were made lively by the ‘Delegate Evening’ (a succession of rock band performances) and the ‘Fellowship'(social) respectively. The whole conference was a huge success as delegates from all round India attended it and were chaired by an international executive board known as Agnese Cigliano.

English Elocution

The English Elocution contest was held on 29th and the 30th of October 2018 where each class was represented by one student. In division A which comprised of classes 11 and 12 the prizes were given to the following boys:

Arnav Shanker of 12 A won the first prize, Saransh Alexander Kumar of 11 A won the second prize and Naman Mishra of 12 C won the third prize.

In division B, which comprised of classes 9 and 10 the following boys, won the prizes:

Akul Kumar of 9 C won the first prize, Donovan Figg of 10 C won the second prize and Ashley Hamlin of 10 B won the third prize.

Constantia 2018

Constantia was held from the 23rd to the 27th of October. Registration took place on the first day. The main event began on the 24th with events such as Gamer’s Nirvana, Pandora’s Box and Picture Perfect. The second day had events like the Hot Shoe, Breaking News and Aqua Challenge. Coordinated group dances were presented and interactive news pieces were recorded. On the 25th Pitch Perfect, Battle of Bands, Madvert and Clue Rush were held. Disc Jockeys competed and artistic comic talents were examined in the Mixtape Studio and Giggles respectively.

La Martiniere College was declared the overall champions for Constantia 2018 and La Martiniere Girls’ College were declared the Runners up.

Athletics Season 2018

The Annual Athletics Season commenced on the 12th October at Polo Ground with Athletics Vice Captain Anand Prakash Pandey leading the College in the lighting of the torch.

Various athletics activities were organized along with the Tug-Of-War. The Tug-of-war was won by Cornwallis House and the Annual Contest between the pupils and the staff members, was won by the Staff team.

Gandhi Jayanti

The birth anniversary of the ‘Father of the Nation’ was celebrated on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. The boys of the Boarding House, the Staff and the Pupil authorities were gathered in the Spence Hall where the proceedings took place. Everyone was welcomed by the Vice Principal who spoke about the day’s significance. A photograph of Gandhiji was then garlanded by the College Captain and the youngest boy in the school. Following this, excerpts were read from the Bible the College Vice Captain, and from the Geeta the College Captain. These were further explained by the Principal who also spoke about Gandhiji’s qualities. ‘Let There be Peace on Earth’ was sung by the Choir and prayers from every religion represented in the school were recited. A poem on Gandhiji was recited and the proceedings ended with the singing of ‘Gandhi Tere Desh Mein’ and the National Anthem.

Junior School Kid’s Carnival

The Kids’ Carnival in the Junior School Campus was held on the 28th of September comprising of a variety of stalls put up by teachers.  A wave of excitement prevailed as the carnival began and all the children rushed to the token stall. Teachers and students displayed stalls like Ring the King, Lucky Dip, Bhel Puri, Maggi and many more. The event was a success due to their admirable hard work.

English Entertainment Programme

The annual English Entertainment Program was on 13th Sept. Various dances and songs were performed by the Junior School. The Middle and Senior school choir performed well-known songs from various Disney movies such as ‘Aladdin’, ‘The Lion King’, ‘Tangled’ and ‘The Greatest Showman’. This was followed by the Middle and Senior School play titled “The Red Lamp”. The show ended with a performance of the popular soundtrack “Footloose”. The day ended by raising a silent toast to the Founder along with a treat for the students and well as for other distinguished guests.

Founder’s Day Chapel Service

The 173rd Founder’s Day was celebrated on 13th September, 2018. The day began with a commemorative chapel service. The congregation included Old Martinians from all around the world, Principals, teachers and students from both La Martiniere colleges in Lucknow. Wreaths were laid on the grave of the founder. Prayers and hymns were sung by the choirs of the La Martiniere institutions in Lucknow. The service ended with Rev Cecil Peter delivering the Founder’s Day address.

Staff Vs. Pupil-Authorities Football

On the 11th of September, La Martiniere College held it’s annual Staff vs. Pupil-Authorities Football Match. The match was played on Polo Ground, at 8:00 AM.

The captain of the Staff Football team was Mr. K.N. Singh and Inzamamul Ansari, the College Vice Captain, led the Pupil Football team.

The first goal of the match was scored in the second half  by Anas Khan, and was soon followed by the second goal which was scored by Mr. Wyeth Mitson. The match resulted in a draw and the final score being 1-1.

Teachers Day

Teacher’s day, which marks the birthday of the former President of India , Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakridhnan, was celebrated on the 5th of September. The day started with a special assembly being held for the same in Spence Hall, where our Principal emphasized on the difficulties of being a teacher, and praised the efforts of our teachers in carrying out their duties diligently. Speeches were given by Vignesh Mehrotra our College Captain and Aamish Azeem from the Middle School thanking the teachers for helping the students in every field and creating a congenial atmosphere for the positive growth of all the students. A befitting tribute was given to our former President with the College Captain and Marut Gupta, the boy who scored the highest marks in ICSE Examinations 2018 in the school, garlanding the portrait of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. Later, dance performances and special songs were performed for the teachers by the students of both the Middle and the Senior school.

Inter-Martiniere Meet

The Inter-Martiniere meet took place from the 27th to the 30th of August in La Martiniere College, Lucknow. On 28th August the Basketball match was held at La Martiniere Girls’ College. La Martiniere Girls’ College, Lucknow won the Basketball match.

In the evening the much awaited and highly prestigious Inter-Martiniere debate for boys was held. Vighnesh Mehrotra accompanied by Arnav Gurnani, Naman Mishra and Nilay Roy Chaudhury made up the debating team of La Martiniere Lucknow. After a round of heated debate and exchange of viable arguments, the result was in favour of La Martiniere College Lucknow and Naman Mishra from the Lucknow team was awarded the best speaker.

Both La Martiniere for boys and girls, Calcutta and won the swimming event. Several records were broken by the team, which was highly praised by the spectators.

The football match was cancelled due to heavy rain.

Independence Day’s Parade

Independence Day’s parade was held at the East Terrace of Constantia. The parade was reviewed by Brigadier Ajai Vig an alumni from the batch of 1982. The day began with the parade, which accentuated on the exceptional talent of boys. The army and naval wings portrayed impeccable coordination in their movements. The young cubs and scouts also put up a remarkable show. The marching and brass bands performed adeptly with their instruments. The instructions given through drumbeats were infallible as a result the parade went well. It was preceded by the hoisting of our national flag by the Chief Guest and his motivating speech.

Hindi Entertainment Programme

The Annual Hindi Entertainment Programme was held for the guests and parents in the evening of 15th August 2018, India’s 72nd Independence Day. The programme started with the auspicious ceremony of the lighting of the lamp by the Principal and other guests and teachers. The first performance was in the form of an invocation to Lord Ganesha through a dance performed by the students of the Middle School. This was followed by 3 dance performances by the students of the Junior campus to the music of the songs from yesteryears. A play stressing on the need for forest conservation and animal protection was also staged by the pupils of the Junior campus.

A dance performed by the students of the Middle School highlighted the issue of degrading child rights in India. What followed was the play staged by pupils of the middle and senior school, titled “Taj Mahal ka Tender”, portraying the situatuin if the Taj Mahal was to be built in modern day India.

A unique ‘Tamsili Mushaira’ was also staged wherein students from the Middle School dressed up as famous poets and ‘shayars’.

Energetic dances were performed by the students of the senior school as well the resident scholars. The students of the senior school performed a patriotic song.

Finally, the Principal proposed a vote of thanks for all the hard work that was done

for making the programme the success it was.

For their exemplary and exceptional performances in the production of the senior school, Ritesh Baweja and Anmol Swarup Agarwal were awarded the Prize for Histrionics in Hindi. The day’s proceedings ended with the singing of the National Anthem.

LMC Vs. DPS Srinagar

A football match was played between Delhi Public School, Srinagar and La Martiniere College, Lucknow on 11th August 2018 at Polo Ground.

Delhi Public School, Srinagar was led by their Principal Mr. Alistair Freese, a former member of staff of La Martiniere College, Lucknow.

The match attracted a crowd and reached a feverish pitch.The home team put up a brave attack and the match ended in a draw.

The initiative of this match was to help in building up a strong bond between the two institutions.

Trident

An Inter- School swimming event was organised by the group ‘Trident’ of La Martiniere College, Lucknow on the 5th, 6th and 7th of August 2018.

The competition saw six teams competing against each other, namely, La Martiniere College Lucknow, Seth M.R. Jaipuria School, Lucknow Public College, City International School, City Montessori School (Gomti Nagar) and City Montessori School (Kanpur road). The competition was played in good spirit and unmatched enthusiasm.

La Martiniere College, Lucknow lifted the trophy and became the overall champions for the second time in a row. The swimmers were able to achieve this championship under the leadership of their Captain Adnan Ahmed and Vice Captain Chinmay Srivastava. The swimming team was trained by the College swimming coach Mr. Nafees Ahmed. The event was sponsored by Romeo’s Pizza.
