Council Examination Results (2021)

Perhaps the best option available to Boards of Examination in the country was applied this year in determining the results of candidates for school leaving examination courses. This was based on the award of marks in school assessments and tests and previous academic achievement, through a determined formula. These results were announced today.
The charge of ‘leniency’ in calculating marks is significantly countered by the trends observed by the teachers concerned, who had some knowledge of the academic ability of their pupils. Happily, there has been a discernible trend where pupils known to have advanced academic merit have been so recognised. This is the best that could be achieved under the circumstances.
Historically, this is the first time in the history of the College that a physical school leaving examination was replaced by a system based on cumulative assessment and previous academic achievements. The only other example of the school leaving examination not being conducted was in 1917, long before the digital generation, when, due to World War I, the examination papers that were sent via sea mail from Cambridge, U.K. could not be received.
All candidates have been awarded certificates in the ICSE (Year 10) and the ISC (Year 12) Examinations.
Those awarded top scores are as follows:

OBITUARY : Mr George Fredrick Gomes,

OBITUARY

Mr George Fredrick Gomes, the 3rd Dormitory Superintendent for many years, passed away in his sleep on 6 July, 2021. He had been ill briefly. He was 87. Mr Gomes passed away on the College Estate, where he had made home with his son, Alfred.
Affectionately known as ‘Freddy’, Mr Gomes was an example of service, firmness and affection. He was devoted to the boys in his dormitory, who were in his care during their most sensitive years of growing up. His affection for them was reciprocated by generations of boys in whom he instilled the best values of the College and good habits that formed for life.
Mr Gomes’ passing shall be mourned, even as his contribution shall be recognised with gratitude. Every boy in the Boarding House, until a few years ago, would have been looked after by him. Each boy will have a story to share and multiple personal memories related to him. The sportsmen of the last two decades shall remember him as an indefatigable swimming and boxing coach. He taught by example, in a soft-spoken, unassuming manner.
A good life, richly lived, is now over.
