Sports Day

On the 26th of November the 138th Senior Athletics Meet was held at the Polo Ground which commenced at 1pm. The chief guest for the day was Lt. General Vivek Kashyap, who is the Chief of Staff at the Head Quarters of The Central Command in the army along with the Colonel of the Regiment-6 Lancers.

It was remarkable that three College Colours – Gold Blazers were awarded on that day to students who had showed exceptional individual performance in a certain sport during their tenure at school. Rishi Aryan, the Captain of the college cricket team, alongside Syed Wali Hussain and Faraz Aftab Rizvi, the Captain and Vice-Captain of our football teams respectively were awarded the prestigious navy blue and gold blazer.

The events began with the Torch Relay in which the captains of each and every sport in the college carried and passed the torch to each other, following traditions with the handing down of the symbolic fire.

The next events on the list were the track events which included only the short sprints of the various categories to keep the environment full of excitement with the athletes speeding to compete against one another for the win. Apart form these were the 2000m cycle race for the Junior’s and the 5000m cycle race for the Senior division which were extremely interesting to witness.

The relay races got the maximum cheer from the audience as the runners participating in them represented a larger group of  competitors. The inter-house relays , the mixed relay won by Martin House and the past vs. present relay won by the present students were the major highlights amongst the other sport events.

A spectacular equestrian show was also put up by the show-jumping team and the ride school of the college. The evening witnessed more displays such as the gymnastics team with their feat of balance and flexibility and the rather formidable taekwondo drill. All the students from classes six to nine presented extremely well-coordinated  P.T displays as well.

These drills were followed by the exalted march past of the college consisting of all the athletes who had participated throughout the season with both the marching bands of the college. This followed with the prize distribution where one of the awards were presented to the outstanding performances by Arya Jeet Singh of Marin House, who was the sole athlete who broke past records in two events this season which were the long jump and the 100m sprint in the Junior division and was awarded the Junior Athletics Champion.

In the Senior category, Asher of Martin House, who is also the athletics captain won the 100m flat race making him the “fastest runner of La Martiniere College” and won the Senior’s Athletics Championship.

The Central Command Trophy for the overall winners for the athletics season of 2022 was awarded to Martin House.

Astonished by the performance and the efforts put up the boys, the chief guest granted the school a holiday for the next working day as a token of his appreciation.

The Athletics Meet for 2022 therefore came to an end with the beating of the retreat and lowering of flags.
