Prize Day 2017-18

The Prize Day for the year 2017-18 was held on the 28th of April, 2018. The East Terrace served as the venue for this event. Being the most important event in the college calendar it was attended by the entire faculty of La Martiniere along with hundreds of students and parents. The occasion was graced by the presence of Lt-Gen. (Retd) Chetinder Singh (Alumnus, Hodson House, 1960-66) as the Chief Guest.

Prize Day commenced as the College Parade marched onto the East Terrace. The Chief Guest arrived in the ceremonial car at the tune of ‘Swagatam’. Following this the teachers, the Principal and the Chief Guest led by the Colour Party moved to the East Terrace. Then, the Chief Guest inspected the parade. As the cadets marched off, the Principal formally welcomed and introduced the Lieutenant General and his wife to the audience. This was followed by the release of the Principal’s annual report by the Chief Guest. The College Choir, thereafter, sung the songs, “Sing a Song of Freedom” and “Greatest Love of All” which they had prepared exclusively for Prize Day.

Then, the academic and special prizes were distributed to the Junior School by Mrs Ruby Sandhu.

A Multimedia Presentation titled ‘The Year That Was’ came up next. It had the entire year summed up in the form of a presentation. The distribution of prizes and trophies to the middle and senior school followed. The academic prizes were awarded first then the special awards and ultimately the trophies. This time the Sheikh Zaheer Husain Memorial Medal for Example and Inspiration was awarded to Prasanna Uttrani of Class 8 D. It is a medal which is awarded on very rare occasions. The much awaited Lord Chelmsford Challenge Cup for the Best House i.e the Cock House Cup was awarded to Martin House. Having done with the prize distribution, the Chief Guest then moved on to address the crowd. He narrated some of his childhood memories and talked about how different the school used to be in his time. The Vice Principal then gave the vote of thanks following which the College Song and National Anthem were sung by all present and with this the Prize Day finally concluded.
