139th Athletics Sports – Constantia Campus

The 139^th Edition of the annual athletics meet of the Constantia Campus was held on the 23^rd of November, 2023 on the Polo Ground, Major General (Retd.) Pratap Kumar Singh (Y.S.M., S.M., A.V.S.M.) was the Chief Guest, a matter of great pride to us Martinians, as Major General (Retd.) Pratap Kumar Singh is an ex-Martinian. As usual the chief guest made his entry on to the Polo Ground in the typical La Martiniere fashion, in Basanti, the Ceremonial Car, flanked on either side by the equestrian squad. The Chief Guest was cordially welcomed by the College Principal, Mr. Carlyle A. McFarland. Later, Major General (Retd.) Pratap Kumar Singh handed over the torch to the College’s Athletics Captain, Asher who then started the Lighting of the Torch Procession with the other captains of the various houses and clubs to the spot where the flame of the Meet was eventually lit.

With that the games finally began with a display of Archery skills by members of the Archery Team. This was followed by the Equestrian Display which kept the guests and spectators enthralled. A race that brought the crowd to their feet was the 2000 m Cycle Race for Juniors wherein Master Abdul Kabir set a new school Record of 5.03.25 breaking the previous record that was set in 2022. The audience was brought to its feet once again by the various relay races especially that in which the boys of La Martiniere participated with girls from the sister school.

Besides the athletics there were PT Displays from the students of 6, 7, 8 and 9. This was followed by a thrilling Gymnastic Display on the Mats, Parallel Bars, Vaulting Horse and the Ropes. This was followed by a Taekwondo Display. The Finale as always was the March Past by all the athletes of the various houses and the display by the College Brass and Pipe Bands

After this there was the much awaited Prize Distribution, Thereafter the chief guest took the stand and addressed the students of the college, after which there was a Vote of thanks by the College Principal.

The sun finally set on yet another Athletics Meet with the beating of the Retreat.  Vive La Martiniere!
